‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ in works as Disney joins hand with screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna for sequel
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' is formally in development, more than two decades after the original film debuted in theaters.
Aline Brosh McKenna, the writer of 'The Devil Wears Prada', has begun writing a potential sequel to the popular movie, that was being developed and produced by the original's producer Wendy Finerman.
Miranda Priestly to deliver more withering stares in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'
Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly, a no-nonsense, powerful New York City-based editor-in-chief of the fictional fashion magazine, will make a big screen comeback as Disney is now developing a follow-up to 'The Devil Wears Prada', having purchased the film rights after acquiring 20th Century Fox, the original first movie's studio.
The 2006 dramedy, based on the same-titled novel by Lauren Weisberger, followed a fresh journalism graduate who finds working for high fashion magazine editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly to be less than ideal.
'The Devil Wears Prada', starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, was a critical and commercial success, earning Streep a Golden Globe win and an Oscar nod, and Emily Blunt a Golden Globe nomination.
Although it is not known which members of the original cast will make a comeback, the plot is said to follow Priestly as she manages her career in the face of traditional magazine publishing's decline.
Priestly will also compete with Blunt's character, who is now a powerful executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly sorely needs, Variety reported.
Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna ('Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' and 'Your Place or Mine') from the first movie has been in talks to write the sequel.
McKenna has had a successful career. She co-created and oversaw the critically acclaimed television series 'My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'.
She also made her directorial debut with 'The Idea of You', a Prime Video film that reunited her with Hathaway.

Anne Hathaway might not be returning to 'The Devil Wears Prada' sequel
Even if the Oscar winner's unconfirmed return could disappoint fans of the original film, it might not come as a huge surprise if Anne Hathaway decides not to return for 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'.
Hathaway said in the past that she thought the concept of a sequel was "tempting", but she added that the time was not right for a sequel, given the shift in the journalism industry from print to digital media, according to Screen Rant.
The star's absence from the sequel could possibly make sense in the universe, even though she is the main character.
During her promotional tour for her movie 'The Idea of You', Hathaway expressed doubts about a potential sequel of 'The Devil Wears Prada' to E! News, stating, "I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen."
