Shannen Doherty admits men might not date her amid cancer battle as she has an 'expiration date’

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shannen Doherty who is currently battling with Stage 4 breast cancer says she thinks she might be a "hard sell" on the dating scene because her cancer diagnosis could be difficult for a potential romantic partner to handle her. 

The actress got candid with Kelly Ripa about her health, dating and diagnosis on the ‘Let’s Talk Off Camera’ podcast.

Doherty opened up about dating with a terminal illness, "I think it’s hard for somebody like me, in my personal opinion, because it’s hard to go into dating someone when you know that they might have an expiration date." 

She also explained how women are more resilient when it comes to battling illnesses, "I don’t think men handle death and illness, most men, I don’t want to generalize and say all men but they don’t handle any of that as well as women do." 

“I’m a very hard sell," she added, which Ripa said she disagreed with, explaining that she is always trying to find a match for her. The morning anchor expressed the opinion that Doherty requires an older, financially independent man who isn't "intimidated" by the ‘90210’ star's fame.

Doherty also declared that she is over "bad boys," citing a recent encounter with a man who raised red flags in less than an hour and for whom she "just retracted." 

“I went, ‘Nope, I can’t do this anymore,’" she told.

Doherty had short-lived marriages to both actor Ashley Hamilton from 1993 to 1994 and Rick Salomon from 2002 to 2003.

Shannen Doherty opens about divorce with Kurt Iswarienko

Doherty is currently in the middle of a divorce with photographer Kurt Iswarienko, who she says she found out was having an affair just before she had to have brain surgery last year. 

“I went into that surgery early in the morning and I went in after I found out that my marriage was essentially over, that my husband had been carrying on an affair for two years," she said on the debut episode of her podcast ‘Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty,’ per Fox News. 

“To not go in that surgery, even though, being very clear, he wanted to go, I couldn't go into that surgery with him there. I felt so betrayed.

She added, "At the end of the day, I just felt so incredibly unloved by someone I was with for 14 years."

Doherty claimed to be in remission from her breast cancer in 2017, despite receiving a diagnosis in 2015.
