WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Matt Gaetz was criticized by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for allegedly exaggerating his ties with former President Donald Trump.

When a reporter inquired about any discussions between Trump and Gaetz regarding McCarthy's removal as Speaker in October of last year, McCarthy responded, "I don't know how close you probably think the president is to Gaetz, but you should figure that out."

McCarthy takes a dig at Gaetz

Gaetz led the effort to vote with Democrats to remove McCarthy as speaker, a move that was supported by seven other House Republicans. After the House approved an annual budget deal to maintain the federal government's operations, Gaetz accused the former Speaker of collaborating with Democrats.

McCarthy was then questioned about Trump's connection to Gaetz, who regularly presents himself as having a strong relationship with the former president.

The reporter asked, “They're not actually that close? ... Gaetz makes it out to be like they're...” to which he replied, "I'm sure. Gaetz probably makes a lot out. He probably lies about who he sleeps with, too."

He said this presumably alluding to the House Ethics Committee's probe of Gaetz's possibly having sex with a minor during his time in Congress.

House Ethics investigators obtain text messages sent by Gaetz to young woman

Matt Gaetz reportedly issued a text invitation to a young lady that his former buddy Joel Greenberg had paid for sex, inviting her to come to the Florida Keys, according to a recent ABC News report that was received by House Ethics investigators.

Greenberg used to be the Seminole County Tax Collector. There is an elected post in each of the 67 counties in the Sunshine State, but it is typically unnoticed since the officials deal with routine bureaucratic duties like renewing license plates and driver's licenses.

However, Greenberg's name made national news following an utterly ridiculous plot in which he made up allegations of sexual assault against a male student against a local teacher named Brian Beute, who happens to be one of Greenberg's key opponents in 2020.

Internet mocks Matt Gaetz

Several internet users mocked Matt Gaetz on X after Kevin McCarthy accused him of lying about ties to Donald Trump. A user posted, "Welp, should have kicked Gatez out when he had the chance" whereas one said, "Gaetz has a minor problem".

Another person mentioned, "None of Trump's relationships are authentic, they are all transactional." while one added, "The lies we think we know are but a tip of the iceberg."
