WASHINGTON, DC: The beloved beagle Snoopy originating from the 'Peanuts' comic strip found himself in the center of a heated political controversy over the weekend, reported Distractify on Wednesday, October 8.

A fan account of Charlie Brown's dog, Snoopy Weekly, reportedly shared a post endorsing the GOP nominee Donald Trump for the upcoming general election. It enraged 'Peanuts' fans across the social media platform, as the cartoon was known for its liberal and inclusive views, and resulted in the fan account being deleted.

Snoopy Weekly endorses Donald Trump

Snoopy Weekly shared an explicit political endorsement of the conservative party nominee on their Twitter account on Saturday, October 5, along with a picture that showed the cheeky beagle shaking hands with a character resembling former president Trump.

"More take home pay, a secure border, and a government that prioritizes prosperity for its tax paying citizens rather than illegal immigrants," read the post. "This election season, @snoopyweekly proudly endorses Donald J. Trump for President of the United States."

"Kamala Harris may have 'come from a middle-class family,' but this account is run by an actual middle-class family. We started this profile last year as a distraction from the difficult economic times, with the hope of bringing happiness to others who were going through the same," it added. "We want better for our family and our great country. Make America Great Again."

Why did post earn ire of Internet?

Followers of the account were enraged with the admins of the now deleted account, who had to clarify in the thread that it was a "family-run account, not affiliated with Peanuts Worldwide," the official account for the 'Peanuts' content. While some slammed them for promoting Trump, others disliked the fact that they got involved with electoral politics.

The creator of Snoopy, Charles Schulz, was known to be a man with liberal views. He introduced Franklin, the first Black character in a mainstream comic strip. 'Peanuts' also features Peppermint Patty, a gender-fluid child from a broken home. The comics, as well as animated television shows and movies that followed, all bore the central theme of love and empathy.

Schulz wrote in a letter in 1970, "I believe that our greatest strength lies always in the protection of our smallest minorities." The thought is seemingly at odds with the MAGA ideology, and therefore Snoopy endorsing Trump was not something fans of 'Peanuts' could come to terms with.

Internet slams Snoopy Weekly

Fans of Snoopy vented their rage on X, calling out Snoopy Weekly over their post even after they deleted their account following the initial backlash.

"You may have deleted the tweet but we all saw it and snoopy hates you btw @snoopyweekly," wrote a person, sharing a screengrab of the original post.

"Hey @Snoopyweekly - just because it was deleted doesn’t mean it doesn’t live on the internet forever," posted another.

Another person compared the deleted account with another fan account of the beagle called Daily Snoopy, which promoted left-leaning content. "SnoopyWeekly: Supports Genocide. Endorsed Trump. Spit on the Legacy of Snoopy. @DailySnoopys: Supports Palestine. Endorses Democracy. Honors Charles Shultz and Snoopy’s legacies," they shared.

A fourth user shared a statement by Peanuts Worldwide LLC made in 2020 which expressed solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, to demonstrate how far removed Snoopy was from backing Trump for the White House.

Yet another shared Schulz's letter where he expresses his support for the minorities while urging others to have faith in democracy and "our country."
