CORALVILLE, IOWA: Former President Donald Trump visited Iowa for the third time this month on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, making an urgent plea to his supporters to vote in "big numbers" when Republicans cast their first presidential nomination votes at the January 15 Iowa caucuses.

Trump has visited Iowa 11 times since September 2023, more than any other early-voting state, per The Associated Press.

He gave his speech at the 'Commit to Caucus' event in Coralville, near Iowa City, on Wednesday, which was a combination of a rally and a 'Caucus 101' session.

During the event, Trump not only slighted his Republican presidential contenders and the sitting US President Joe Biden but also boasted about his achievements, including keeping Iowa at the forefront of the Republican nominating process and having lower gas prices during his administration.

What did Trump say during his speech in Coralville on Wednesday?

Trump boasted about keeping gas prices low during his term at the White House, saying, “Gasoline prices are now five, six, $7 and even $8 a gallon. By contrast, under the Trump leadership, my leadership, inflation was non-existent and we had gasoline down to a dollar 87 ($1.87) a gallon. Doesn't that sound beautiful? Beautiful.”

Addressing the crowd in a hotel ballroom in Coralville, the former president attempted to argue that Biden's economic policies have left American families worse off than when he was president and that the repercussions are more acute this holiday season.

Trump invoked former US President Ronald Reagan when asking the crowd in Coralville, "Were you better off four years ago or are you better off today?"

He also announced on Wednesday that if he is elected, he will cancel the $3 billion US pledge to help developing countries reduce emissions and cope with climate change, according to the Deccan Herald.

This pledge was made by Vice President Kamala Harris at the UN COP28 climate summit in Dubai, on December 2, 2023.

However, the US Congress, which is divided politically, must authorize the release of funds before the pledge can be fulfilled.

Trump has criticized Biden's administration for investing in renewable energy, and he opposes what he calls "climate reparations" to other countries.

Trump said that if he is re-elected in the November 2024 US general elections, he will cancel all climate reparation payments immediately, and seek to "claw back" any payments made by the Biden administration.

Internet slammed Trump for being out of touch with reality

People on X argued that Trump reminiscing about the good ol’ days of his administration about how gas prices were lower than it is today, is nothing more than a tall tale as gas prices in the nation today are not as high.

One X user remarked: “Dude is so disconnected."

Another user tweeted: "Fact check: The national average gas price is $3.092/gal."

Another user said: "Jeez, even Jet fuel is only $6.50 a gallon. Is he talking about rocket fuel?"

One user quipped: "Says the guy who's probably never had to buy his own gas - ever."

Another X user wrote: "Donald Trump has never bought gas a day in his miserable and crooked life. All he knows how to do is lie."

Another user remarked: "Uhhh. Where? Median gas price in America is $2.99"

One user tweeted: "How can someone be lying so shamelessly? Gosh…"

Finally, this X user said: "What world is he in? $4 tops, lots below"
