'So much emotion and trauma': Kelly Clarkson opens up on co-parenting in different households being tough
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Kelly Clarkson reflects on her co-parenting journey as she continues to figure out parenting.
The singer shares two children, nine-year-old daughter River Rose, and seven-year-old son Remington Alexander with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, 47.

The 41-year-old songwriter explained why she would not let her children use social media as she said, "That can be really hard on kids in general but especially kids with parents in the public eye."
"So I have informed them they’re not allowed to, under my roof, ever have [it]," she added.

Kelly Clarkson says co-parenting is 'harder at first'
The 'Winter Dreams' singer split from her husband in 2020. Clarkson and Blackstock who tied the knot in 2013 finalized their divorce in 2022.
Following their divorce, Clarkson was mandated to provide $45k monthly in child support for their two children. She moved to New York City with River and Remington before the fifth season of her show 'The Kelly Clarkson Show.'
At the time, the songwriter said she's "most excited" about her 30 Rockefeller Center workplace since she can now "show up to work smiling and actually meaning it."
Clarkson stated that co-parenting is "so different [for everyone]. It’s harder at first. There’s so much emotion and trauma involved."
She added that as time passes, "the easier it gets." Clarkson further said co-parenting is tough as she explained, "It’s hard enough when you’re married and come from two different backgrounds and ways to discipline and educate.
"Doing that in different households can be tough," she continued. The television personality is now confident about making the right decision about not letting her children be on social media.
"My daughter was like, ‘Well, what if Dad lets me?’ I’m like, ‘Well, you’re there four days a month. Enjoy that.’ And right now he’s not letting them do it either," said Clarkson.
"I’ll listen when they’re older, but until they have a solid argument, it’s a no," she added.
Kelly Clarkson says she's 'definitely not a helicopter mom'
Speaking about motherhood, Clarkson said she "can be hard on myself, but I think I do a pretty good job."
"I’m definitely not a helicopter mom. I like that they’re independent, but I’m adamant about my schedule, making sure I’m there as much as I can be," she continued.

"There’s no perfect parent; I’m definitely screwing up my children somehow! But I’m doing my best," Clarkson added, according to People.
