Steven Drozd's 16-year-old daughter Charlotte returns home safely 3 days after mysterious disappearance

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: The teenage daughter of The Flaming Lips drummer returned home safely three days after her mysterious disappearance.

Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd, 16, was reported missing on October 5, 2024, after she was last seen on a Seattle monorail.

Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd was missing for three days

Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd's disappearance led to an urgent appeal from the band and police efforts to find her. The search concluded successfully with her discovery on October 8.

Charlotte was last spotted on the monorail near Seattle’s Space Needle at about 11.30 am on October 5, according to Seattle Police.

"Charlotte has been found and is safe. Thanks for everyone’s help getting her back to her family," Seattle Police Department posted on X.



 

The department on October 7 had previously shared updates and descriptions of her appearance on X (formerly Twitter) to assist in the search.

“MISSING: Charlotte, 16 y/o, WF, 5’9”, 140lbs, brown eyes and long brown hair. Wearing khaki color shorts and pink shoes. Last seen Saturday 10-5-24 at 11.30 am, in the 400 block of Broad Street by the Space Needle," the police department's post read.

Emotional appeal to locate Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd

Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne took to Instagram with a joint post on Monday, October 7, sharing the missing person report and calling on fans for help.

"URGENT!!! Please help if you can !!!" he wrote, adding, “Steven’s daughter (she is 16 years old) is missing!!! She was last seen at the Space Needle early on Saturday….I’ll post more info as soon (as) I can.”

In response, Steven Drozd commented, "Thank you Wayne for posting. We don’t know what to do."

Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd is finally found safe

Shortly before the police announced that Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd had been found, Wayne Coyne's wife, Katy Coyne, posted an update.

“‘Bowie’ Drozd was found safe outside of Seattle!! Thank you to everyone helping bring her home safely," she said.

Wayne Coyne also confirmed the good news on Instagram, writing, “Yessssss, she’s found and is safe.. her mother has spoke with her.”

The band is currently touring with Weezer on their North American "Voyage to the Blue Planet" tour which had a stop in Seattle the day before Charlotte went missing.
