SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: The Flaming Lips has put out an urgent call for help in locating their drummer Steven Drozd's teenage daughter, Charlotte “Bowie” Drozd.

The 16-year-old went missing on Saturday, October 5, at approximately 11:30 am in Seattle, Washington, near the iconic Space Needle observation tower.

Where was Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd last seen?

Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd, affectionately nicknamed Bowie, was last spotted on the monorail close to the Seattle landmark, as reported by the Seattle Police Department. She stands about 5 feet 7 inches tall, has brown eyes and hair, and weighs around 130 pounds. At the time she went missing, Charlotte was wearing khaki shorts and pink shoes.

The Seattle Police Department has classified her case as a missing or runaway juvenile, with a detective from the Missing Persons Unit now actively investigating her disappearance.

Flaming Lips bandmates come together in search of Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd 

Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne took to social media on Monday, October 7, to raise awareness about Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd's situation.

He posted the missing person poster and urgently appealed for assistance from his followers: “URGENT!!! Please help if you can !!! Steven’s daughter (she is 16 years old) is missing !!!” he penned. “She was last seen at the Space Needle early on Saturday… I’ll post more info as soon as I can.”

Flaming Lips grapple with the recent loss of former collaborator Nell Smith

The search for Charlotte 'Bowie' Drozd is intensified by recent tragedy in the Flaming Lips family. The band is mourning the loss of their former collaborator, Canadian music prodigy Nell Smith, who tragically died at the age of 17.

Simon Raymonde, a former bassist for the Cocteau Twins and co-founder of record label Bella Union, confirmed the devastating news on Instagram, stating, “We are all shocked and devastated to hear of the sudden and tragic passing of our artist and dear friend Nell Smith , over the weekend in British Columbia,” per Independent.

“Nell was just 17 and was preparing for the release of her first solo record in early 2025 on Bella Union, made in Brighton with Penelope Isles’ Jack and Lily Wolter.”

He urged respect for her grieving family during this difficult time. “While we all try and come to terms with the awful news, and out of respect to Nell’s grieving family, we are unable to make any further comments at this time. The Bella Union Family.”

The cause of death has not been revealed yet; however, during The Flaming Lips' concert in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday, October 6, frontman Wayne Coyne announced that Smith had died in a car accident.

"We are reminded once again of the power of music and how encouraging it can be to be around people that you love," Coyne stated before inviting the audience to join in singing the band’s 1999 hit, 'Suddenly Everything Has Changed.'
