WASHINGTON, DC: Sen Tim Scott (R-SC) faced a wave of criticism online after he slammed a recent ad from President Joe Biden’s campaign targeting Black voters, calling it "insulting."

The Republican, known for his support of Donald Trump, used the opportunity to emphasize the former president's purported contributions to the Black community while questioning the incumbent's record.

When asked about his thoughts regarding the ad, Scott remarked, "Well, here’s what I can tell you, is that under Donald Trump, we were better off," on CNN’s 'State of the Union.'

He claimed, "There are two things that are driving Black votes back to Donald Trump: jobs and justice. No 1, under Donald Trump, our wages were going up. Right now, fairness is going down."

Sen Tim Scott calls Biden campaign ad criticizing Donald Trump's treatment of the Black community 'insulting'

The Biden campaign ad launched a scathing attack on Trump’s treatment of the Black community.

"Donald Trump disrespecting Black folk is nothing new. He was sued for refusing to rent his apartment to Black families and called for the execution of five innocent Black and Brown teenagers. It’s why Trump stood with violent white supremacists and warned of a 'bloodbath' if he loses the next election. And, if he’s president again, vowed to be a 'dictator 'who wants revenge on his enemies," stated the narrator in the video.

Seeking to undermine Biden’s credibility on racial justice, Scott referenced controversial remarks made by the president in the past.

The South Carolina Republican remarked, "But if you’re really concerned about racial justice in America, let’s not forget, Joe Biden is the guy that talked about ‘racial jungles’ as a result of desegregation," alluding to a 1977 comment by Biden in which he stated that "orderly" racial integration policies would cause his children to "grow up in a racial jungle."

Scott added, "Let’s not forget the fact that Joe Biden is the president who said, ‘If you don’t vote for me, you can’t be Black.’ … An old White dude telling me I can’t be Black if I don’t vote for him? This is the president who said … the Republican Party wants to put you back in chains."

"The only person I have seen restraining Black folks economically is the Joe Biden economy. So, I find it quite insulting to suggest that Joe Biden does not have serious concerns, when his own vice president, Kamala Harris, said he supported segregation. And if you look in cities like Chicago today, the elimination of charter schools under Joe Biden resegregates schools in America," claimed the politician.

Scott stressed, "We need four more years of common sense under Donald Trump and not four more years of segregation under Joe Biden."

Recent polls have shown the incumbent losing support among Black voters, a crucial demographic for his reelection.

A poll from the New York Times/Siena College/Philadelphia Inquirer, released earlier this month, found Biden leading Trump among Black voters, 63 percent to 23 percent, a significant decrease from the 87 percent of Black voters who supported the president in 2020.

Scott, who suspended his own GOP presidential bid in November and endorsed the ex-POTUS, has been suggested as one of Trump's potential VP picks.
