SALEM, NEW HAMPSHIRE: The suspected gunman linked to the deadly Brown University mass shooting has been found dead inside a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation. Authorities have identified the suspect as Claudio Neves Valente, 48, a Portuguese national.

The discovery brings an apparent end to a nearly week-long manhunt tied to multiple violent incidents across Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including the fatal shooting of two Brown University students and the killing of an MIT professor.

Suspected Brown University shooter reportedly found dead in storage unit in Salem

A law enforcement source told Fox News that the suspect was found deceased inside an Extra Space Storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire, with early reports suggesting the death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators had been preparing to enter the suspect’s storage unit after surveillance footage reportedly showed him entering the facility at some point.

Authorities entered the storage facility earlier but had not initially accessed the specific unit registered under the suspect’s name. Sources later confirmed the body was located inside that unit.

Storage unit and abandoned vehicle central to investigation

According to law enforcement sources, the suspect had a storage unit registered in his name at the same facility where his abandoned car was discovered. Surveillance video reportedly captured the suspect entering the storage complex, prompting investigators to secure a federal warrant to search the unit.

Officials said the suspect’s movements after entering the facility could not be confirmed through video evidence, raising concerns that he may have remained inside.

Investigators believe the suspect was responsible for the Brown University mass shooting on Saturday, December 13, which left two students dead and nine others wounded. He is also suspected in the fatal shooting of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro, who was killed at his Brookline home this week.

As of publication, police have yet to release official statements regarding the findings inside the storage unit.

Further details are awaited.
