WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Ted Cruz has called for an investigation into signs crediting the 2021 infrastructure law for improvements across the nation's infrastructure. He accuses President Joe Biden of using these signs to bolster his reelection campaign, according to MSNBC.

Politico reported that Cruz opposes signs stating, "Project Funded By President Joe Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law," arguing that the $1 trillion measure has been excessively politicized by the government since Biden signed it in 2021.

According to Politico, in a letter dated Thursday, June 20, Cruz wrote to the head of the Office of Special Counsel, stating, "I am writing to refer this matter to you for investigation as a potential violation of the Hatch Act, a federal law that broadly prohibits the use of taxpayer dollars for campaign activities."

He added, "Congress, not President Biden, wrote [the infrastructure law], and it did not do so to aid the President’s reelection campaign."

According to a spokeswoman from the White House, the signs "aim to enhance transparency and educate taxpayers on how federal funds are being utilized," as reported by Politico.

"If Senator Cruz were half as concerned about Texas kids getting safe drinking water as he is about signs, he might have voted for the Infrastructure Law," the spokesperson added.

Furthermore, Cruz initially opposed the measure, but in 2023, he praised a Texas project funded by the bill as a "significant bipartisan achievement."

Notably, as Biden struggles to persuade Americans of his political victories in an election year, the senator has voiced his displeasure with the signage.

Despite strong GOP opposition, the infrastructure law was approved by Congress with bipartisan support. Legislators who were ardent supporters of MAGA, such as Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, branded other Republicans who backed the measure as "traitors" and published their office phone numbers online. Many of these lawmakers reported receiving death threats.

According to Cruz's letter, the banners that link Biden to the infrastructure bill are described as "nothing more than campaign yard signs paid for by the American taxpayer."

A user wrote, "Cruz complaining about infrastructure signs is silly. Remember all the times' politicians have complained that government was doing nothing," while one added, "I remember when stimulus checks were issued with Donald Trump's signature on them, even though Trump had nothing to do with them. Funny, I didn't hear Ted complaining then."

A person also stated, "I’m not even mildly surprised that Ted Cruz doesn’t understand this basic principle…. if you do things FOR THE PEOPLE, those PEOPLE often reward you with VOTES."
