NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) wished for at least one jury member in former president Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial to refuse to be part of the court proceedings during an interview on Fox News on Wednesday, May 29.

In a clip uploaded on X (formerly Twitter), Cruz is seen calling for an end to the trial which is taking place at the Manhattan Criminal Court under Judge Juan Merchan, and to allow voters to present their judgment on the presumptive GOP nominee during the upcoming presidential election in November.

"Even if they don't acquit, one juror can stand up and say, 'I will not be part of this travesty of justice.' I hope and pray that happens, that would be good for the country if they ended this ridiculous charade and they let the voters decide in November," Cruz said in the video.

Status of Donald Trump's NY hush money trial

According to Business Insider, the 12-member jury in the Trump trial deliberated for four-and-a-half hours before sending a note to the judge and breaking for the day on Wednesday. In the note, the jurors asked for four read-backs from the prosecution case, which they will listen to after reconvening on Thursday.

The read-backs include testimony by two key prosecution witnesses, former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker and former Trump attorney Michael Cohen.

The jury also asked Judge Merchan to re-read the one-hour jury charge that they heard that very morning. These explain the 34 felony counts of falsifying business records that the defendant faces, as well as the underlying federal and state laws relating to that charge. Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty on all counts and denied any wrongdoing.

Internet slams Ted Cruz for his comments

"What would be good for the country is holding a criminal accountable. The message sent would really galvanize the position that no one is above the law, no matter socioeconomic status. The citizens of this country need to know that the laws are applied equally to the wealthy," a user wrote over X in response to the Texas Senator's comments.

"For what reason would they deny all that evidence? He doesn’t say," noted another.

"Jury tampering much?" one person asked.

"'One juror can end rule of law and that would be good for this country'," another said while mocking Cruz's remarks.

"Seems like the Harvard law grad slept through the whole law part of law school," one individual said.
