PLYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS: Lindsay Clancy’s lawyer Kevin Reddington has fired back at Senator Ted Cruz after the Texas Republican made strong comments about his client following her mistrial.

Cruz discussed the case during a Newsmax interview with Rob Finnerty on September 4, the same day jurors failed to reach a unanimous decision on whether Clancy was criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children.

Reddington later called Cruz’s remarks “despicable” and “reprehensible” in a statement released on September 10.

Cruz spoke about Clancy, who was charged in the January 2023 deaths of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.

“There is no dispute that this monster of a mother murdered all three children, a 5-year-old, a 3-year-old, and an infant,” he said during the interview, describing the deaths in graphic terms.

Clancy pleaded not guilty to the charges. Her defense has argued that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time.

Reddington strongly rejected Cruz’s comments and accused the senator of “ragebaiting” in a statement to the New Haven Register.

“Senator Cruz, you, sir, are despicable. You clearly do not come close to understanding the basic concept of postpartum psychosis. Quite frankly, that is not surprising,” the attorney said.

Reddington also criticized Cruz for speaking about mental health and the case, saying the senator did not understand the circumstances surrounding Clancy’s defense.

“You obviously do not know the first thing about mental health or the woeful state of medical and psychiatric care in our country. Instead of making a rational observation, you call for her execution,” he said.

The attorney called Cruz’s comments “reprehensible” and challenged the senator to speak with him directly if he wanted to discuss the case.

The sharp response came just days after the mistrial left prosecutors facing a decision about what happens next.

On September 4, jurors said they could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether Clancy was criminally responsible for her children’s deaths.

Judge William Sullivan subsequently declared a mistrial.

Prosecutors now have to decide whether to pursue another trial with a new jury. A plea deal is also another possible path for the case.

Meanwhile, Clancy has returned to Tewksbury Hospital, where she has received medical and psychiatric care since the 2023 incident.

She is now paralyzed from the waist down following her attempt to take her own life.

Reddington told NBC News on September 9 that Clancy remains in a serious mental state.

“She is suicidal,” he said. “She's on 24/7, one-on-one suicide watch. I worry about her every day.”
