ELLIS COUNTY, TEXAS: A Taylor Swift guitar met with an unusual fate at a charity auction in Texas when the winner shelled out $4000 just to smash the prized instrument.

The video of the unidentified man smashing an autographed guitar of the ‘Cruel Summer’ singer has gone viral online.

According to Daily Mail, the elderly man bought the prized instrument for $4000 at the Ellis County Wild Game dinner, a charity event to benefit agricultural causes and educate local youth.

In the video, the man can be seen walking to the stage to obtain the prized guitar. Immediately he starts tearing up the instrument with a hammer handed to him by an auction worker.

As the guitar, adorned with Taylor Swift’s signature and pictures, starts falling apart, the crowd erupts into loud cheers.

Then, the auctioneer tells the man, “Now take that and hang up that busted thing.”

Apart from TikTok, the video was posted on X as well by a user, who captioned it, “Omg lol!!!! Guy bought a signed Taylor Swift guitar at a live auction for $4,000, only to destroy it 🔥🔥😭😭.”

More than 24 hours later, the post garnered 20 million views and 14K comments.

Per TMZ, the signed guitar was donated to the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner organization before Swift endorsed the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris for president.

While Swift herself did not donate the guitar, it was given by a third party, who also provided a certificate of authenticity of the Grammy-winning singer’s autograph.

The instrument was, however, not meant to be destroyed. It was the buyer who decided to make the move, which is assumed to be a political statement.

An auction attendee, Rob Bartley told The Independent that the area in Texas where the auction took place, is a Republican stronghold, and considered “heavily conservative.”

After Swift’s endorsement of Harris following the debate and Donald Trump’s subsequent proclamation of his ‘hatred’ toward the singer, the area seemingly became charged up.

Bartley told the outlet, “A Taylor Swift guitar had sold at another event unrelated to this, earlier in the year, so it wasn't an unheard of type of item to auction.”

“That said... when the man announced his intention to smash it the camera phones came out,” said the onlooker.

He explained, “It was unexpected, but not surprising. This part of Texas leans heavily conservative and the Biden/Harris administration isn't held in high regard.”

“A lot of the working class people that live around me feel that the administration gone from not working for us to working against us,” continued Bartley.

Internet says it doesn't 'affect Taylor Swift'

Internet was left divided in their opinions after the elderly man shelled out $4000 only to destroy the guitar. While a section of social media fans declared he just spent money for a "Taylor Swift cause," another group reminded him he just lost $4K.

One of the netizens quipped, "It doesn’t affect Taylor Swift and he just lost $4,000 🤡😂🤣🙄."

Someone else noted poignantly, "Imagine spending $4k on a guitar when there’s literally an emergency situation on the east coast. That $4K could have help a lot of other people instead of some collector."

"And this hurts who??? He just raised $4000 for a Taylor Swift cause!!! 🤪," quizzed someone else.

Another user noted sagely, "You should have outgrown the immaturity negativity and hatred of other people, like you’re 10 years old, by the time you have white hair."

"So apparently he can afford gas and groceries… guess that’s a lie," said another user, making a subtle political statement.

Someone else, however, strongly condemned the man saying, "I’d be embarrassed if I was related to that guy. Some things are more important than the opinions of celebrities. Guess SHE lives in his head rent free."

"And Taylor Swift fans are laughing at him. Hopefully his $4000 will go to the Harris/Walz 2024 campaign," chimed in another.

Someone else, however, noted, "I understand what they are doing and I even understand how they feel. But this stuff is pointless at best. And counterproductive at worst."

"That’s some rage that man has down deep inside. Costly & poorly directed," said another user.
