WASHINGTON, DC: In a bid to "restore order to the Southern border," five Democratic House members on Wednesday, April 23, urged President Joe Biden to reinstate immigration policies from the Trump administration, according to the New York Post.

Remarkably, Representatives Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash), Jared Golden (D-Maine), Mary Peltola (D-Alaska), Vicente Gonzalez (D-Texas), and Don Davis (D-NC) issued a collective statement urging President Biden to utilize executive action to reinstate Title 42 and the "Remain in Mexico" program.

Their request follows their support for House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-La) border security bill on Saturday, April 20, which failed to garner the necessary two-thirds majority to pass.

Significantly, on the same day when the vote for the border security bill failed, the House passed a $95 billion funding bill for Taiwan, Israel, Ukraine, and humanitarian aid in Gaza.

The congressional lawmakers said, "Beyond defending our allies, we strongly agree with the National Border Patrol Council that Congress and the President must act and bring order to the Southern border."

They added, "That is why we also voted for HR 3602 on Saturday, and why we all voted last month for $19.6 billion for Border Patrol so that it could ramp up its efforts to secure the border."

In their discussion regarding the policies commonly referred to as Title 42 and "Remain in Mexico," they elaborated, "We are also calling today on President Biden to use the authority given the executive by Congress to immediately reimplement 8 U.S.C. § 1225(b)(2)(C) and we are calling today on leaders in both the House and Senate to pass legislation to give Border Patrol back the expulsion authority that expired last year."

Notably, shortly after taking office in 2021, Biden initiated the phase-out of "Remain in Mexico," also known as the Migrant Protection Protocols. Under this policy, asylum applicants were required to remain in Mexico while their claims were processed, appearing for their US immigration hearings.

Moreover, law enforcement officials were able to quickly remove migrants who were caught crossing the border due to the pandemic-era Title 42 regulation, which was terminated in summer 2023 when the Biden administration called an end to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

The House of Representatives was criticized this week by National Border Patrol Council president Brandon Judd for passing billions of dollars in international aid while taking little action to address the migrant situation.

The Border Patrol union head told Fox News, "We are beyond disappointed that the House would give aid to secure the borders of foreign countries but gave nothing to allow the Border Patrol to secure the safety of the United States. There’s nothing more backward. I wouldn’t have even expected taxpayers’ dollars. They could have given us policy, and that would have been enough."

Internet criticizes Biden as House Dems urges him to reinstate Trump-era immigration policies

As Democratic House members requested Biden to reinstate immigration policies from the Trump administration, several people on the internet criticized the Biden administration.

A user wrote on X, "They’re getting desperate because they’re gonna lose the election," while one added, "That's funny because when Trump did it, they wanted nothing to do with it. It's amazing how that works, isn't it?"

A user also mentioned, "Same people campaigning against it. They can’t be trusted," whereas one mentioned, "Everything they’re doing is for show. It’s an election year after all."

A person also stated, "Losing, like going over a cliff kind of Losing," while one said, "Ah yes, after they got sufficient voters to vote democrat, NOW they want to keep the rest there." [sic]
