WASHINGTON, DC: According to new court records, former president Donald Trump dismissed warnings that he would face charges of keeping confidential information at his Mar-a-Lago residence and pledged to pardon one of his now co-defendants if charges were filed, according to The Hill.

Notably, the information revealed the honest advice from an unidentified witness and other specifics about the federal investigation. It was presented in unsealed documents as part of a larger court battle in the Mar-a-Lago case.

Trump brushes off warnings of being charged in documents case

The witness, whom the documents only refer to as Person 16, urged Trump to assist federal agents in their search for classified documents as doing so may spare him from prosecution.

The witness informed they told Trump, "Whatever you have, give everything back. Let them come here and get everything. Don’t give them a noble reason to indict you, because they will."

However, the witness claimed that despite the warnings, Trump appeared unconcerned, and gave a 'weird 'you're the man' type of response'.

Notably, for fear of retaliation, the witness declined to have their interview with the FBI recorded. They are described as having daily access to the Oval Office and a security clearance in the interview summary.

Moreover, the witness said they just learned about the routine order to declassify everything the former president possessed after Trump was charged, refuting Trump's position in the interview.

Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. The witness claimed that they repeatedly urged Trump to return those records that the National Archives was requesting at the time, saying that it 'was not worth all that aggravation'.

The former president "sometimes needed to be messaged the same thing from multiple people close to him," the witness added, stating that they had advised Trump's children to issue the same warning.

The witness stated he had informed Trump’s children, "There are issues with the boxes. They belong to the government, talk to your dad and about giving them back."

The Witness' conversation with Walt Nauta

The witness also discussed interactions with Walt Nauta, Trump's valet, who has subsequently been accused of lying to investigators and helping the former president move boxes.

MIAMI, FLORIDA - JULY 6: Walt Nauta, valet to former U.S. President Donald Trump and a co-defendant in federal charges filed against Trump leaves the James Lawrence King Federal Justice Building on July 6, 2023 in Miami, Florida. The arraignment for Walt Nauta, charged alongside former President Donald Trump for allegedly mishandling classified documents, was postponed and rescheduled for July 6. It was postponed due to Nauta's inability to find a Florida-based attorney and being stuck in Newark, NJ, after his flight was canceled. (Photo by Alon Skuy/Getty Images)

The witness stated that Nauta was informed by Trump associates that the documents case was politically driven and “much ado about nothing,” and that Trump would pardon him in 2024 even if he was charged with lying to the bureau.

Notably, additional information regarding the probe, including its code-name, Plasmic Echo, is revealed in the documents.

Internet slams Trump for brushing off warnings he’d be charged in documents case

Several internet users slammed Donald Trump for dismissing warnings that he could face charges of keeping confidential information at his Mar-a-Lago residence.

A user wrote on X, "Foolish man = he thought you had to break the law to get arrested, charged, and end up in court", while another added, "Anyone surprised? He's never been held accountable at any point in his life. Why would he think that would change?"

A person also wrote, "Not sure if it’s Trump’s ignorance or arrogance that will be his ultimate downfall", whereas one mentioned, "He knew! He didn't care! He sold American secrets to enemies! He is a traitor and should never be allowed in the White House again!! The only house he should go to is the big house with bars!"

A person added, "Yeah no s***. His lawyers specifically told him to return the docs or face charges. And they kept contemporaneous note about it."
