CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES: California Governor Gavin Newsom is getting heat from a group of citizens who want to recall him. The group claims he's more focused on his White House dreams in 2024 than on taking care of California.

People on social media are talking about Newsom possibly replacing President Joe Biden in the next election. Some rumors even say that Democrats might pick him as their candidate at the last minute.

Newsom's recent visit to the White House for a governors' meeting got attention, especially because President Biden praised him for his leadership display in California. This made the rumors about his presidential ambitions even stronger.

But Newsom also got criticism for his comments about former President Donald Trump. In an interview with NBC's 'Meet the Press', he called Trump a "weakness masquerading as strength."

Gavin Newsom faces recall threat from Rescue California group

According to Fox News, a group of Californian citizens is trying to recall Governor Newsom out of office. Fox News states that the group is not content with how he's managed the state, especially with the budget deficit and other issues.

The group, called Rescue California, is planning to start the process to recall Newsom. with the first step being serving him with papers on Monday to get the ball rolling. They say Newsom is more focused on fulfilling his presidential aspirations than fixing California's problems.

Rescue California's director, Anne Dunsmore, said, "Gavin Newsom has abandoned the state to advance his Presidential ambitions, leaving behind a $73 billion budget deficit and a public safety, immigration and education crisis."

She further stated, "California needs a full-time governor who is fully focused on the serious problems the state and its citizens are facing. This may be our last opportunity to rescue and restore our state, while we highlight for the rest of the country the destruction Newsom has left in his wake."

Fox News reports that Newsom's presidential ambitions got a boost when he visited Israel and China last year. Rescue California criticized him for spending $3 billion a year to give free health care to 700,000 immigrants "while cutting vital programs for veterans, school children, the disabled and the homeless."

The group also accused Newsom of keeping schools closed during COVID-19 and letting criminals out of jail, leading to a surge in robberies. Additionally, they pointed out high taxes, expensive homes, and failed homeless programs as issues under his leadership, as reported by Fox News.

Newsom fired back on Twitter, saying, "Trump Republicans are launching another wasteful recall campaign to distract us from the existential fight for democracy and reproductive freedom. We will defeat them."

According to KCRA 3, Dunsmore responded to Newsom's tweet by saying, "No governor, California is coming after you and it's going to make the last recall effort look like a sandbox."

A spokesperson for Newsom's campaign, Nathan Click stated that they are taking the situation seriously.

He emphasized, "These Trump Republicans are targeting Governor Newsom because he is out there defending democracy and fighting for the reelection of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. He’s not going to be distracted from that fight," as reported by KCRA 3.

Internet users assert Gavin Newsom should be voted out

Numerous users on Facebook piled up to slam Newsom after he received the recall threat.

A user wrote, "This time vote him OUT." Another user wrote, "Just grab him by the back of his trousers and throw him out of the capital and tell him not to come back."

Another user commented, "He has done nothing but destroy CA. Hope people wake up and sign this recall petition."

A user stated, "He isn't Governor material much less Presidental. He has ruined California and doesn't need to come close to the White House."
