WASHINGTON, DC: California Governor Gavin Newsom branded former President Donald Trump as a "weakness masquerading as strength," reported The Hill.

In a conversation with NBC's 'Meet the Press' aired on Sunday, February 25, host Kristen Welker questioned Newsom whether the Democratic Party was underestimating the Republican frontrunner as he closes in on becoming the potential opponent to President Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential election.

"Well, I think he's weakness masquerading as strength. I — I think he's more unhinged. He's more — he's less interesting than he was even a few years ago. I mean, you've heard his comments just this week. More just overt racist comments that he's made," the governor responded.

Trump faced intense backlash for his recent comments with a racial undertone.

Speaking at the Black Conservative Federation Gala in South Carolina on February 23, the ex-president cited the four indictments against him and said, "And a lot of people said that's why the Black people like me, because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against, and they actually viewed me as I'm being discriminated against. It's been pretty amazing but possibly, maybe, there's something there."

The California governor lashed out at the former president, calling him "unhinged" and adding he is "much weaker" when compared to his older self.

"It's just extraordinary how quickly he is unraveling in real time, including just on basic policy issues like repealing Obamacare, which is overwhelmingly supported. The highest ACA [Affordable Care Act] enrollment that we've seen in decades, or rather in years and years, just the last few weeks," Newsom said.

In late 2023, Trump announced his plan to replace his predecessor, Barack Obama's flagship health care bill, with a "much better and less expensive alternative." He considered Obamacare as "expensive" and "not good healthcare."

Citing the election victories of Democrats, Newsom claimed, "Democrats are stronger. We're winning – '18, '20, '22, '23. You saw it in New York three. We continue to win. We continue to outperform. And Donald Trump is a big part of that. And he's going to be the nominee of the Republican Party."

Newsom also ruled out concerns about Biden's old age as he labeled his age as an asset that made him "so successfull."

Netizens called out Newsom's remarks against Trump by pointing out the pathetic condition of his state, California.

One user remarked, "What a clown! He has turned CA into a cesspool."

"N he's more creepy than ever!" another person wrote.

A third user added, "He acts like we don't know he destroyed California or something."

"He has a state overrun by crime, homelessness, bottom 10 in education, and a $78,000,000,000 budget deficit - yet think he know what’s best," a fourth response read.

Another individual said, "Words from the man that DESTROYED CA."
