NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Senator Tim Scott addressed critics of his endorsement of former President Donald Trump on Wednesday, stating on 'The Ingraham Angle' that Trump had achieved "more for minorities" than President Joe Biden.

Scott, the lone Black Republican in the Senate, addressed potential scrutiny from the left during an interview with Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham.

Following this, Ingraham took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share her conversation with Scott.

However, many people on the internet slammed Scott and called him a “piece of garbage” following his support for Trump.

Tim Scott claims Donald Trump did 'more for minorities' than Biden will ever do

Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham took to X and wrote, “Sen Tim Scott: Trump did more for minorities than Biden will ever do.”

In the interview, Ingraham questioned Tim Scott about whether he expected backlash for backing Donald Trump, who has a history of making controversial remarks regarding race.

Scott expressed that while he wasn't anticipating the criticism, he does “expect the left to lose their mind because Donald Trump did more for minorities than Joe Biden ... will ever do.”

He said, “Think about the fact that Donald Trump put more money in historically Black colleges and universities than any other president.”

During Trump's presidency, he openly expressed strong support for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), proclaiming them to have "never had better champions in the White House."

In 2019, Trump signed a bipartisan bill that permanently allocated over $250 million annually to the nation's HBCUs, along with other institutions serving significant numbers of minority students.

He emphasized his administration's commitment to fulfilling his promise to advocate for HBCUs. Trump often highlighted his achievements and claimed to have done more for the African American community "than any president since Abraham Lincoln."

Senator Scott, in his remarks on Wednesday, echoed these sentiments, praising Trump's efforts in areas such as the economy, and unemployment, and addressing sickle cell anemia, a blood disorder disproportionately affecting the Black population.

Scott further added, “Guess what? He’ll help white people and Black people and brown people. I mean, he likes everybody.”

Ingraham also asked Scott how he felt while standing behind Trump as he trashed the person who launched Scott’s Senate career.

The South Carolina Republican, who halted his own presidential campaign in November, officially endorsed Trump last week.

He joined Trump on stage on Tuesday night, following the former president's win over former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire primary.

And it was Haley who put Scott in the Senate as she appointed him to the seat.

During Trump’s speech, he asked Scott, “You must really hate her,” to which Scott replied, “I just love you.”

When Ingraham queried him about this particular evening, asking, “Was it uncomfortable up there? Nikki Haley’s your buddy. These things are uncomfortable. You’re sitting up there and he’s pretty tough on her last night. I mean, it was pretty tough. The dress, I probably wouldn’t have recommended that he go after the dress. I mean, that’s Trump. But was it uncomfortable for you because of your friendship with her?”

Scott said, “Listen, she served our state well as a conservative governor. She has decided to be a moderator Republican presidential candidate.”

He continued to criticize Haley on the issues of social security and funding Ukraine in the war against Russia.

Internet calls Tim Scott a ‘piece of garbage’

Many X users took a brutal jab at Tim Scott after he slammed Nikki Haley and lauded Donald Trump.

One person wrote, “Can't decide who is more of an embarrassment, you or @votetimscott How are those falling ratings, Laura,” and another said, “Tim Scott's 'I just love you' to Trump was the most cringe-worthy, pathetic display I have seen.  He should be embarrassed by this.”

An X user simply called out Scott saying, “The guy is licking the boots of Trump to try to be vice. Trump humiliated him on stage and he went back for more that’s disgusting and a weak man,” and another said, “Remind me again the number of jobs @votetimscott has created. That's what I thought, zero would be the answer.”

One more person took a jab at Scott, “Lots of respect lost for Tim Scott these last few days,” and another added, “OMG. This is so funny and outrageous at the same time. I can’t understand why Scott would even remotely think people are going to believe this nonsense. Really? Scott is a piece of garbage.”
