NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Oscar-nominated actor Timothee Chalamet has addressed the viral conspiracy theory claiming he secretly performs as the anonymous Liverpool-based rapper EsDeeKid.

Fans have spent months suggesting that Chalamet and EsDeeKid are the same person, arguing that the actor has been moonlighting as the masked UK rapper. Chalamet finally broke his silence on the rumor during a radio appearance on Heart Breakfast while promoting his new film Marty Supreme. Here’s what he said.

Timothee Chalamet faces question on EsDeeKid identity rumor

During the Heart Breakfast interview, Chalamet was asked directly whether he is secretly the rapper behind the mask. One of the hosts said, “Your fans have lost their mind and they are saying that you are EsDeeKid. Is that true again?”

Chalamet refused to give a clear yes or no. “I got no comment on that. No, I mean, I got no comment,” he replied with a grin.

When the hosts pointed out that he and EsDeeKid share similar eyes and have even been photographed wearing the same skull-patterned scarf, Chalamet dodged again, leaning into the mystery.

“I’ve got two words on that,” he said, pausing before smiling. “Two words: All will be revealed in due time. That was a little more than two words.”

He then joked about his old high school rap persona, Lil Timmy Tim, referencing his 2012 viral performance at his New York City high school. “Let me tell you, Lil Timmy does not have the same ring to it,” he laughed.

Chalamet has spoken often about his love for hip-hop and even played a rapper in a Saturday Night Live sketch. He is currently traveling the world on a press tour for Marty Supreme, which releases on December 25.

How the Timothee Chalamet–EsDeeKid theory exploded online

The theory linking Chalamet to EsDeeKid took off on TikTok earlier this year, pushed by the rapper’s anonymity and similarities between the two. EsDeeKid released his debut album this year and quickly developed a dedicated fanbase, amassing 602,000 Instagram followers and 9.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Because he performs with only his eyes visible, speculation about his real identity has reached fever pitch.

The rumor escalated when TikTok creator KJ Freeman described it as the “mystery of the century” in a video that gained 1.6 million views. She highlighted their shared hazel eyes, full eyebrows, and photos of both wearing the same luxury scarf. She also pointed out that Chalamet had been spotted at a London concert by performer Fakemink, an artist who has collaborated with EsDeeKid.

Side-by-side edits, face overlays, and Reddit deep dives comparing everything from nose shape to hand veins only fueled the theory further.

Despite the intense online sleuthing, no verified evidence supports the claim that Chalamet and EsDeeKid are the same person, and the theory remains unproven without official confirmation.
