WASHINGTON, DC: Controversial conservative commentator Tomi Lahren faced widespread ridicule after she tried to educate businessman Mark Cuban on the concept of tariffs.

According to Raw Story, the debate began when Cuban reacted on X to former president Donald Trump’s recent rally in Michigan.

Donald Trump's speech and Mark Cuban's response sparks debate over tariffs

During the rally, Donald Trump declared, "We're going to bring back the car industry," and added, "We're not going to let it disappear. We're going to bring back jobs, we're going to bring back factories, and make Michigan very successful again. And we can do that very easily through the taxation of foreign nations."

Cuban questioned how Trump planned to tax other countries, prompting Lahren to respond, "Do you not know what a tariff is?"

Cuban elaborated on the subject, explaining that tariffs are not a direct tax on foreign businesses but are instead a cost paid by the importing company.

He wrote, "A tariff is a tax imposed on foreign-made goods, paid by the IMPORTING BUSINESS (Walmart would be an example) to its home country's government (USA)."

Cuban illustrated this with an example, stating, "If there is a 10 percent tariff, Walmart pays the US government 10 percent on those billions, and guess who they pass that cost on to?"

Experts question Donald Trump's tariff strategy amid rising consumer costs

Donald Trump has continued to advocate for high tariffs as a means to protect American jobs and reduce the deficit. However, experts argue that such tariffs would likely increase consumer prices without penalizing the countries of origin.

The Libertarian Party of Tennessee weighed in, commenting, "That will make the price of cars skyrocket."

Producer and filmmaker Ese Morrison also joined the conversation, asking, "Who pays a tariff Tomi? I'll wait."

Chuck Thomas from the Truth Barker podcast contributed with a laughing emoji, while conservative author Tom Nichols offered a sardonic observation, saying, "Kind of a nice Death of Expertise moment: Youtuber asks globally known entrepreneur if he understands what a tariff is. I'm gonna guess that yes, he does."

Social media roasts Tomi Lahren

The backlash against Tomi Lahren has been swift and unforgiving, with critics taking to social media to express their disdain.

One user wrote, "Seriously, she thought she was going to school Mark Cuban, is she really that stipid? Tami Loren doesn't know anything about anything other than peroxide! And she is a respected person on Fox. That should tell you everything you need to know about the Fox audience."

Another user commented, "Tomi Lahren owes every blonde woman in the world an apology for perpetuating a stereotype."

One replied, "TrumpleFelon's MAGAts are too stoopid to listen to experts..."

One said, "Tomi has always been an idiot bimbo! That’s why Trump picked her before because she’s one of the “poorly educated”. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️"

Another stated, "Does anyone even take Tomi Lahren seriously? She's a board certified clown."

One person wrote, "Good catch!"
