WASHINGTON, DC: The Trump administration is facing a wave of online ridicule after charging a man with a felony for throwing a Subway sandwich at a federal officer in Washington, DC.

Sean Dunn was caught on video yelling at a Border Patrol agent before hurling the sandwich at the officer’s chest during a late-night patrol on 14th Street NW.

The incident comes shortly after Trump announced using Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act to crack down on crime in the city.

Man throws sandwich at patrol agent

According to a police report, Sean Dunn got dangerously close to the officer’s face, yelling, “F**k you! You f*****g fascists! Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!”

Moments later, Dunn crossed the street, threw the sandwich at the same officer, and then fled the scene. Video footage shows a man in a pink shirt jumping and shouting at the officer before tossing the sandwich. After attempting to escape, Dunn was apprehended and reportedly admitted during processing, “I did it. I threw the sandwich.”

The incident took place around 11 pm on Sunday, August 10, as a Metro Transit Police detective, accompanied by US Customs and Border Patrol agents, patrolled the 2000 block of 14th Street NW in Washington, DC.

Jeanine Pirro explains incident of man throwing Subway sandwich

On Wednesday, US Attorney for Washington, DC, Jeanine Pirro announced that her office had charged a man for allegedly throwing a Subway sandwich at a federal law enforcement officer in the district on Monday. In a video posted on X, Pirro explained that the man faces a felony charge for assaulting a police officer.

Pirro emphasized, "So President [Donald] Trump has vowed to make DC safe and beautiful again. And as part of his effort to fight crime, he’s bringing in our federal law enforcement partners … to help the Metropolitan PD fight crime."

Describing the incident, Pirro said, “And the president’s message to the criminals was, ‘If you spit, we hit.’ Well, we didn’t quite do that the other night when an individual went up to one of the federal law enforcement officers and started jumping up and down, screaming at him, berating him, yelling at him.”

She added, “And then he took a Subway sandwich … and took it and threw it at the officer. He thought it was funny. Well, he doesn’t think it’s funny today because we charged him with a felony, assault on a police officer. And we’re going to back the police to the hilt. So there, stick your Subway sandwich somewhere else.”

This comes after Trump declared a “public safety emergency” and ordered the National Guard to be deployed to tackle violent crime in Washington, DC.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reported that nearly 850 officers were involved in the operation, resulting in the arrest of 23 individuals connected to homicide, firearm, drug offenses, and other crimes that night. Additionally, the officers confiscated six illegal firearms.

Internet can't stop laughing over man's charge for throwing sandwich

The charges filed against the man have sparked widespread ridicule online, with many critics calling them excessive and symbolic of the Trump administration’s heavy-handed response to even minor incidents.

One wrote, "This is how immature and moronic she sounds."

MSNBC legal analyst Kristy Greenberg tweeted, "You know DC crime’s bad - the US Attorney made a video when a guy threw a Subway sandwich at a cop. Call the National Guard - that sandwich had some mustard on it."

A different commenter added, "You’re a f*****g clown to charge someone with a felony for throwing food. This is why law enforcement is such a joke… they don’t actually solve the big s**t, they just overreact to little s**t. Meanwhile, Epstein predators roam free."

A user joked on Bluesky, "My God! There was a submarine attack on Washington, DC?"

Another mocked, "Absolutely nothing illustrates the performative bulls**t comedy of Trump's assault on DC like charging a guy for throwing a sandwich. May the ridicule be eternal." A user asked, "Was it toasted?"

A person shared, "That's too bad. I wonder what would happen if this man replaced his Subway sandwich with a stinky fish sauce sandwich?"

A person said, "I almost feel sorry for what the media has done to these poor people's brains. He really thinks he is fighting Hitler with a footlong."

Another added, "Because they thought his hero sandwich was a gun."

One more commenter shared, "Border Patrol is acting like the sandwich had immigrants hiding in the mayonnaise. Was it a footlong? He probably felt emasculated by its overwhelming girth. Cowards. We don't want them in any city. They should move to Germany and see how far their nazi salutes get them."
