WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Max Miller’s re-election bid appears to be in danger amid domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife and pressure from his former father-in-law, Sen Bernie Moreno, as President Donald Trump is privately asking Miller to drop out.

Trump allies pressure Trump to ask Miller not to fight reelection

According to sources familiar with the matter, cited by CNN, Trump allies want Trump to encourage embattled Republican Rep Max Miller to drop his run for reelection.

One of the sources revealed that some of the top Republicans reached out to White House officials through a phone call, seeking their help to ask Trump to drop the reelection plan as the deadline for him to appear on the ballot is approaching.

One of the sources, familiar with the internal conversation, told the outlet that Trump told GOP allies that he doesn’t believe that Ohio Congressman can win the race, given the accusations, and that he should drop out.

Speaking to Miller on Monday, August 3, Trump reiterated that Miller’s reelection battle is going to be tough.

“(Trump) kept on reiterating it’s going to be tough, and it’s going to be a really hard one for you,” the Ohio congressman told the Wall Street Journal, adding that the president was “supportive” of him.

Miller refuses to drop, saying it would cement allegations

“If I dropped out of this race it would mean we as a nation have fallen so far from our American values. I will not validate false claims by removing myself just to please the court of public opinion,” he said.

“I am innocent of all of the allegations that have been attributed to me. I have done well representing (my) constituents interests. Why would I drop out?”

Over the weekend, Moreno said that his ex-son-in-law “should not serve” in Congress.

However, people in Trump’s circle think that Moreno condemned  Miller late, expressing their worry that it might be too late to convince the President and GOP leaders to pull their support from Max Miller and push him out of the race.

“I wish he’d come out against this guy sooner,” said one Trump adviser. “(Miller) sounds like a real scumbag.”

Moreno wanted to speak out against Miller months ago, but was asked by his daughter not to, according to two sources familiar with the situation.
