WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump is making headlines again, and this time he did not disappoint. The former president took to Truth Social and called himself the “acting president of Venezuela.”

The post immediately drew attention, suggesting that Trump is not only the President of the United States but also an “acting” leader of Venezuela. The post came after reports of a Venezuelan strike and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

As expected, the post sparked a wave of reactions across social media. Comments and discussions flooded platforms, with users expressing shock, humor, and disbelief.

Trump shares post naming himself ‘acting president of Venezuela’

Trump shared what appeared to be a Wikipedia-style screenshot. The image featured the familiar blue links and clean white layout, along with one of Trump’s official 2025 portraits at the top.

Beneath the portrait, he is described as the “Acting President of Venezuela.” The entry lists his status as “Incumbent: January 2025” and places this title alongside his roles as the 25th and 47th President of the United States.

The timing explains why the word “acting” is drawing so much attention. The post surfaced after reports of a major US military operation in Venezuela. On January 3, 2026, the US carried out a mission called Operation Absolute Resolve, which led to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Explosions were reported across northern Venezuela as forces targeted infrastructure to disable air defenses. US troops then moved into Caracas, seized Maduro’s compound, and flew Maduro and Flores to New York to face federal narcoterrorism charges.

On January 6, 2026, Maduro and Flores reportedly pleaded not guilty in a Manhattan federal court. Trump and his administration defended the operation as a law-enforcement action supported by the military and justified under constitutional authority.
