WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump ripped Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, calling her “the Republicans’ worst senator” after she opposed a Department of Justice (DOJ) lawsuit seeking to block certification of the state’s Senate election results under certain circumstances.

The Trump administration has filed a lawsuit seeking to block certification of Alaska’s US Senate election results if Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan loses and votes cast for another candidate with a similar name could have changed the outcome.

The closely contested Alaska Senate race has sparked a clash between Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski and the Trump administration over the DOJ’s lawsuit.

President Donald Trump published a long Truth Social post late on Saturday, October 24, attacking Murkowski and calling her “the Republicans’ Worst Senator.” He accused her of siding with Democrats over the Alaska Senate race.

Trump said Murkowski was upset after he criticized Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system and the DOJ lawsuit seeking to block certification of the Senate election if Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan loses and votes for another candidate named Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. could have changed the outcome.

He accused Murkowski of opposing the lawsuit, which he argued could help prevent votes from being diverted from the Republican incumbent to the other candidate with a similar name.

Trump also took aim at Murkowski’s political career, claiming she was elected because of what he called “Corrupt Ranked Choice Voting.” He described the voting system as a “total Democrat scam” designed to confuse voters and said the other Dan Sullivan was on the ballot so that votes could be taken away from the Republican incumbent.

The president went further, accusing Murkowski of possibly wanting Democrats to “steal the Election” because she opposed the DOJ lawsuit.

Trump also highlighted his record in Alaska, saying he had delivered “Billions and Billions of Dollars” to the state and claiming he had done more for Alaska after returning to office.

He ended his post by saying he was asking only for a “fair and honest Senatorial election.”

DOJ files lawsuit seeking to block Senate certification under certain conditions

Trump acknowledged that he had directed the DOJ to file a lawsuit seeking to block certification of Alaska’s Senate election results under specific circumstances.

Republicans have expressed concern that another candidate named Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. could draw votes away from the incumbent, potentially helping Rep Mary Peltola (D-AK) win the race.

In a Friday post on X, Murkowski criticised the lawsuit and said federal officials should have stayed out of the Alaska race.

“Alaskans don’t need any help voting for their preferred candidates, and the State of Alaska has already handled this by clearly distinguishing the candidates on this year’s ballot,” Murkowski said. “The Department of Justice should never have filed this lawsuit.”

Trump’s Saturday night post showed that he remained unmoved by her argument.

“Lisa Murkowski is a DISGRACE to Alaska and our Country,” Trump wrote in his Truth Social post.
