Trump can't run for a third term, but here's what he plans for his growing '$800M' war chest instead
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Friday, August 7, said that he solely controls MAGA Inc, his principal super PAC, and plans to use its financial resources to support Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections.
In an interview with PunchBowl News, Trump firmly rejected the characterization that the PAC is controlled by his allies, stating that “not my allies, I control, $800 million.”
Donald Trump says he plans to spend on Republicans
When questioned on whether he planned to spend the money, Trump said he would use it to support Republicans in the midterms. “Of course I'm gonna do. I could spend it on pretty much anything. What, I'm gonna spend it for, I'm gonna help Republicans,” he said.

Trump also pushed back against suggestions that he is not doing enough to support Republicans in the midterms, pointing to his plans to spend the money and his continued efforts to campaign, arguing he no longer needs to campaign after winning the presidency. “I said to somebody, wait a minute, you don't understand, I won. I'm not campaigning,” Trump said.
Where does the $800 million figure come from?
MAGA Inc is one of Trump’s biggest super PACs that supports candidates aligned with Trump and can raise and spend large amounts of money independently of candidates and campaigns. The PAC reported $400,559,788.98 in cash on hand as of June 30, 2026, according to Federal Election Commission filings, despite the president citing the value at "$800 million."
According to an analysis by Newsweek, pro-Trump political committees collectively held about $677 million in cash at the end of June, including roughly $400 million held by MAGA Inc, nearly $130 million by the Republican National Committee, $56 million by the National Republican Senatorial Committee and $93 million by the National Republican Congressional Committee.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump-linked groups received more than $781 million in donations and other payments after the 2024 election, with MAGA Inc. accounting for the largest portion.
The PAC began this year with roughly $304 million and has received major contributions, including $35 million from Foris Dax, the parent company of Crypto.com, $25 million from Wisconsin businesswoman Diane Hendricks and $10 million from the Winklevoss twins in liquidated Bitcoin, according to the FEC filings.
MAGA Inc has spent far less in 2026 than it did in 2024
Despite the size of its war chest increasing rapidly, MAGA Inc has spent relatively little on direct campaign activity this year.
MAGA Inc has not directly supported a race since March, when it spent $17,900.88 on behalf of Georgia Republican Clay Fuller. Since then, it only provided $560,000 to MAGA KY, which supported Rep Thomas Massie’s (R-Ky) Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein’s win, according to Politico. MAGA KY was then terminated in July.
That amount is starkly different from the nearly $377 million that the PAC spent in the 2024 federal election cycle, according to OpenSecrets. Some Republicans have since then expressed concern that Trump’s political operation is holding onto its cash for too long as candidates prepare for competitive midterm races.
