Trump celebrates Palm Beach airport renaming, says it will become 'one of the greatest airports'
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Thursday, July 9, celebrated the official renaming of Palm Beach International Airport in his honor, calling it "a very big day" for South Florida and promising the facility would undergo a major transformation.
The airport, located near Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence, is now officially known as President Donald J Trump International Airport, making it one of the highest-profile public landmarks to carry his name.

The president praised the location and outlined plans for improvements to the facility. "The Area is hot, the Location is great, and the Renovation will be spectacular," Trump said. "Thank you to all in Palm Beach for your vote and your confidence. This will soon be one of the Greatest and Most Spectacular Airports anywhere in the World!"
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation approving the name change earlier this year. The airport's Federal Aviation Administration identifier has also been updated from PBI to DJT, though airlines will continue using the previous code for reservations until August 18 as systems transition.
According to airport officials, the renaming project is expected to cost approximately $5.5 million. Eric Trump and members of the Trump family were aboard the first private aircraft to land after the new designation took effect.
Palm Beach airport joins growing list of landmarks bearing Trump's name
The Palm Beach airport joins a growing list of projects and government initiatives that have adopted Trump's name during his second term. Recent initiatives have included the naming of a planned class of Navy warships, a visa program for wealthy foreign investors and several federal programs tied to the administration.
The latest designation follows another high-profile renaming effort that led to a legal dispute and the removal of Trump's name from the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.
Last month, a federal judge ruled that only Congress has the authority to change the Kennedy Center's official name, prompting officials to remove references to Trump from the building, signage and website.
While that ruling remains under appeal, the Palm Beach airport renaming proceeded under Florida law, making the transportation hub the latest major public facility to officially carry the president's name.
