QUEENS, NEW YORK: Donald Trump found himself at the center of social media mockery after his latest claim during a rally in New York on Thursday, September 19, where he nostalgically spoke about riding the subway to school — despite his father Frederick Trump being one of NYC's wealthiest businessmen.

Kicking off the rally, the 78-year-old GOP nominee wasted no time in attacking what he described as the decay of the Empire State, blaming corruption and a loss of safety for its current troubles.

Donald Trump vows to revitalize New York's infrastructure

"We’re gonna make this city and we’re going to make this state incredible again," Donald Trump declared, promising to rebuild crumbling infrastructure.

"Together, we will rebuild our roads, bridges, highways, and airports. They’re falling apart, they’re falling down. We will renovate New York subway."

He then digressed to a childhood anecdote, claiming he used to ride the New York subway to school.

“Oh, it was beautiful, I used to go to school on the subway. Can you believe it? I mean, I like to say it’s not so long ago, but it probably is," Trump mused.

Donald Trump wonders why New York has become unsafe

According to Donald Trump, his parents would drop him off at a station without any concerns.

“My parents would drop me off at a subway and I’d go to Union Turnpike, or I’d go to wherever I– They had no fear that I was going to be disappearing!" said the twice impeached former president.

"They would take me to a subway, put me on, and say, ‘Bye darling, bye.’ If you do that today, you have about a 75% chance that you’ll never see your child again. What the h**l has happened here? What has happened?”

This is not the first time Trump has spoekn about how unsafe New York has become. On previous occasions he had claimed that murder and crime in New York had hit record highs.

Trump is one of the five children born to Fred Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod Trump. Fred Trump was a real-estate developer and businessman who saw incredible success building low and moderate-income housing in Brooklyn and Queens after World War II. He was worth an estimated $300 million when he died on June 25, 1999.

Internet accuses Donald Trump of fabricating subway story

The internet quickly reacted as Donald Trump claimed to use the subway to go to school. Critics accused Trump of fabricating or exaggerating his story, considering his affluent upbringing in Queens.

"He’s never been in a subway in his life," a social media user tweeted.

"The man has never stepped foot in public transportation," said another.

"Exactly what the nation will be saying to him on November 6. "Bye, darling, Bye," added a third.

"Bull……..s**tt!!! His parents would call for a limo to take his a** wherever he wanted to go," said a user

"*Bites tongue*", mocked a user.

"An actual picture of Fred and Mary Anne, dropping Donald off at the subway," said a use while posting an old photo of Trump with his parents.

"Union Turnpike or wherever?  He went to a private school back then and took the subway!! Him ? He was dropped off at school . His school address 119-17 Union Turnpike, Forest Hills, NY 11375.. There you go ..," read a tweet.

"That man never rode a subway in his life," penned a user.

"Placed on the list of never ever happened!" said a user.
