WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump appeared on Fox News’s ‘Hannity’ on Thursday, January 8, and discussed the upcoming midterm elections. Trump, who had previously also voiced his opinion about the possibility of his impeachment if Republicans lost the midterm elections, doubled down on his claims.

He told Sean Hannity during the interview that a sitting president always loses the midterm elections, even if they had done well for the country. He added that he believed he had done a good job, but was aware of the possibility that history could repeat itself.

Trump remains hopeful about the upcoming midterm elections

During his conversation with Sean Hannity on Thursday, President Donald Trump stated that in the last 100 years, the sitting party had been able to maintain power only three times.

“Four times in the last 150 years,” he said.

Trump noted that, irrespective of the political party, the sitting president “always loses the midterm.” He added that people would think that there was a 50/50 probability. However, regardless of the president’s performance, he could lose.

“I think we’ve done a great job. We’ve done maybe the best job ever in the first year, but they always seem to lose the midterm,” Trump told Hannity.

The president added that it seemed psychological for the voters, and while he didn’t know why it exactly happened, it was an unlikely scenario.

He admitted that it didn’t make sense and nobody had been able to define why it happened, but said that he was hopeful the Trump administration could change that.

Trump touts administration’s work

While speaking to Sean Hannity, Donald Trump stated that his administration had done incredible work. He added that they passed the 'Great Big Beautiful Bill' and had been able to bring down taxes.

“We have so many things, and we’re respected all over the world again as we’ve never been respected before,” Trump stated.

He added that under his leadership, there had been a cut in taxes on social security, tips, and overtime. Trump added that his administration had been able to achieve things nobody thought were possible.

The president predicted that the Republican Party could defy the polls and secure the midterm, although some of his allies thought otherwise.

Nancy Mace warned the republicans earlier this week that the party had not done enough to maintain control of the House in 2026. Jesse Watters from Fox News also predicted that the Republicans might be at a loss during the midterm elections.
