WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump officially launched TrumpRx.gov on Thursday, February 5, a new government-run portal designed to give Americans direct access to heavily discounted prescription drugs.

Calling the initiative a historic breakthrough, Trump said the website would immediately make dozens of commonly used medications available at dramatically lower prices.

“This is a very big deal,” Trump said. “People are going to save a lot of money and be healthy."

Trump launches TrumpRx.gov as ‘transformative’ healthcare initiative

Speaking from the White House, President Trump described the debut of TrumpRx.gov as a major turning point in his administration’s push to rein in prescription drug costs.

“We’re here this evening to celebrate the launch of one of the most transformative healthcare initiatives of all time—there’s never been anything like it,” Trump said.

“Starting tonight, dozens of the most commonly used prescription drugs will be available at dramatic discounts for all consumers through a new website, TrumpRx.gov,” he added.

Trump explained that the platform would serve as a direct link for consumers to access lower-cost medications negotiated through new agreements with drug manufacturers.

“This launch represents the largest reduction in prescription drug prices in history by many, many times, and it’s not even close,” Trump.

'Dramatic discounts’ promised on life-saving medications

The announcement centered on sweeping price cuts for popular medications used to treat diabetes, obesity, and respiratory conditions.

Trump highlighted agreements with major pharmaceutical companies, including Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, to slash costs on blockbuster drugs.

“Novo Nordisk will be slashing the price of Ozempic from more than $1,000 to $199 and the price of Wegovy from more than $1,300 to $199,” Trump said. “Nobody could even believe it.”

He also cited reductions for insulin, which he said would drop from about $200 to $25, and for common inhalers made by AstraZeneca, falling from roughly $458 to $51.

“They’re coming all the way down by a difference of as much as 300, 400, 500, even 600 percent—sometimes more than that,” Trump added.

According to the White House, TrumpRx.gov will list eligible drugs, pricing, and participating manufacturers, allowing consumers to view discounted options directly.

Trump says Americans paid more while other nations paid less

Trump used the event to blast past administrations from both parties, arguing they failed to confront pharmaceutical companies or foreign governments over price disparities.

“For too long, the United States has been effectively subsidizing the cost of drugs for the entire world,” Trump said.

He accused previous leaders of making empty promises while Americans continued to face the highest drug prices globally.

“For years politicians from both parties have promised to bring down prescription drug prices and make healthcare more affordable, but they all failed—it was all words,” Trump said.

The president credited his administration’s use of tariff threats and trade pressure as key leverage that forced companies and other nations to agree to the new pricing framework

Trump concluded by saying TrumpRx.gov marks the beginning of a broader effort to ensure Americans pay the lowest prices anywhere in the world for prescription drugs.
