Trump mocked for ‘obsession’ with Debra Messing as book claims he's still salty from her criticism of him
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: In ‘Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass,’ a book released on Tuesday, June 18, Variety's co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh reveals that former President Donald Trump had a “crush” on 'Will & Grace' star Debra Messing and remains dismayed by the actress's critical comments about him on X (formerly Twitter).
According to Setoodeh, Messing was a recurring topic during his six interviews with Trump following the 2020 election.
What did book’s author reveal about Donald Trump’s predilection toward Debra Messing?
Ramin Setoodeh noted that Debra Messing's social media criticism continued to “live rent-free” in Donald Trump's head and that the 78-year-old MAGA figurehead would monitor her X account during his time serving as POTUS, according to DailyMail.
“This Debra Messing, who I always thought was quite attractive - not that it matters, of course ...,” the ex-president said during one of their interviews. “Debra Messing was so thankful ... And then I watch her today, and it's like she's a raving mess.”

Going by what Trump told Setoodeh during their sit-downs, he met Messing for the first time during the second season of ‘The Apprentice'.
“So I'm in line,” Trump recalled. “The show had gone to No. 1, and we're ready to do the upfronts, which I'd never heard of.”
Upfronts is an annual presentation in May in which the networks bring out some of their most popular TV stars to draw in sponsors.

“And Debra Messing came up to me. She had a show at a similar time,” the former POTUS continued. “She came up to me with her beautiful red hair. And she said, ‘Sir - I love you! Thank God for you! You're saving the network, and you're saving my show.’"
“Because in that world, which I know a lot about now, when you have a hit, a lead-in, it's a massive difference,” Trump claimed.
Setoodeh highlighted that ‘Will & Grace’ aired right before ‘The Apprentice’, indicating that it wouldn't have benefited from an increase in ratings from viewers who continued watching NBC after ‘The Apprentice’.

Instead, it's possible that ‘Will & Grace’ viewers actually contributed to the success of Trump's reality TV show.
“A lead-in - or a lead out,” Trump clarified, adding. “She was so thankful. She said, ‘I can't thank you enough.’ Do you believe this? I've been watching her. And I'm saying, ‘She'd do anything for me.'”
Trump's remarks were "lathered with a suggestive grease, similar in tone to his boasting bout women finding him irresistible in the leaked Access Hollywood tape", according to Setoodeh.

“She was so effusive,” Trump remarked. “And when I see the hatred coming out of her mouth today, it's incredible.”
Yashir Ali, a journalist, was the first to report on Trump's "obsession" with Messing in the book.

Trump urged Setoodeh to publish the story after he repeated it multiple times.
"You should tell that Debra Messing story," the former president and presumed 2024 Republican nominee suggested. "To me, it's disgusting."
