WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump once again sparked renewed speculation about his mental sharpness after he failed to recognize individuals standing just feet away during a high-profile press event.

The president was speaking during a press conference at the White House on Wednesday, August 6, celebrating Apple’s expanded commitment to US investment, when the moment occurred.

As Donald Trump praised several attendees, he said, “Thanks as well to Scott Bessent and Howard Lutnick wherever you may be.” The awkwardness escalated when Secretary of Commerce Lutnick immediately responded, “I’m right behind you.” The brief exchange drew awkward laughter, with Trump turning and replying, “Oh, there you are... hello fellas, I missed you.”

The press conference was initially convened to announce Apple’s latest pledge: an additional $100 billion investment in US manufacturing and job creation. This move brings the tech company’s total investment in the US to $600 billion over the next four years, according to the White House.

However, the economic announcement was quickly sidelined by Trump’s repeated verbal stumbles. Earlier in the event, he struggled to articulate part of his speech, prompting murmurs online that the president was suffering from another “senior moment.”

The incident quickly gained traction on social media, where critics seized on the exchange as further evidence of Donald Trump’s declining mental acuity.

One wrote, “No way this guy already forgot he walked into the room together a few minutes ago lmao,” and another said, “Dementia Don strikes again.”

A person joked, “Most powerful man on earth has lost it.”

An individual who was clearly concerned remarked, “This is becoming scary. Trump doesn’t know where he is when he’s up on the roof of the WH. Now he doesn’t know when someone he clearly knows is standing right behind him. And he is running our country?”

“And they consider that normal?” a person questioned, with one asking, “When is the Press going to talk about his behavior???”
