PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: As the 2024 presidential election approaches, former president Donald Trump is gradually redirecting his attacks from President Joe Biden to his likely new opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

The strategic shift is evident in Trump's recent activities on Truth Social and during his rallies, where he has coined new nicknames for Harris, such as "Lyin' Kamala" and "Laffin' Kamala." However, Trump has not entirely abandoned his old monikers for Biden, still referring to him as "crooked" and "sleepy."

Republican mock Kamala Harris as 'DEI hire'

Kamala Harris, who did not perform well in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, has taken over Biden's campaign after the President announced his decision not to seek reelection. Biden endorsed Harris, passing the baton to his Vice President.

However, this transition has not been without controversy. Some Republicans argue that Harris was selected for her role due to DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) considerations, rather than merit. Critics also contend that the Democratic Party is undermining the democratic process by replacing Biden without an open primary, the Daily Mail reported.

Representative Tim Burchett (R-Tenn) has been vocal about his belief that Harris was a "DEI hire." In an interview, Burchett stated, "Biden said during the 2020 election that he 'was going to hire a Black female for vice president.' What about white females? What about any other group?"

He added on social media, posting on X, "The media propped up this president, lied to the American people for three years, and then dumped him for our DEI vice president."

Donald Trump's social media onslaught

Since Kamala Harris assumed leadership of the Biden campaign, Trump has inundated his Truth Social account with posts targeting her. In one post he wrote, "Lyin' Kamala Harris destroys everything she touches!"

In another, he questioned Harris's confidence in Biden's ability to lead the country, asking, "Does Lyin' Kamala Harris think Joe Biden is fit to run the USA for the next six months? She must answer the question."

Trump also raised concerns about Biden delegating presidential authority to unelected officials, stating, "Now it appears Joe is delegating his Presidential Authority to unelected Washington Bureaucrats! He doesn't even trust his Vice President. WHO IS RUNNING THE COUNTRY?"

In another post on Monday night, Trump criticized ABC News, writing, "ABC Fake News is such a joke, among the absolute WORST in the business. They try to make Crooked Joe into a brave warrior because he didn't have the 'guts' to fight it out — He quit! They then tried to make 'Sleepy' look like a great President - he was the WORST, and Lyin' Kamala into a competent person, which she is not."

Trump also pushed for a debate hosted by Fox News rather than ABC, despite having agreed to a debate with Biden hosted by ABC News in September.

Kamala Harris kicks off her presidential campaign

Vice President Kamala Harris wasted no time in launching her campaign, delivering her first major speech in Wisconsin, a crucial swing state.

Speaking in a gymnasium outside Milwaukee, she posed a stark question to voters, “Ultimately in this election, we each face a question: What kind of country do we want to live in? Do we want to live in a country of freedom, compassion, and rule of law, or a country of chaos, fear, and hate?”

Harris emphasized the power of the electorate, stating, "We each have the power to answer that question. The power is with the people."

Harris also drew on her legal background to differentiate herself from Trump, the first former president to be convicted on felony charges.

She reminded the crowd of her tenure as California's attorney general and San Francisco's district attorney, saying, “In those roles, I took on perpetrators of all kinds. So hear me when I say I know Donald Trump's type,” which was met with chants of "Lock him up" from the audience, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Donald Trump slammed over new nicknames for Kamala Harris

As Trump tests new nicknames for Harris, his critics have not held back on social media.

"Wait…hold on. Trump is recycling his nicknames again?! Crooked Joe and now Lyin’ Kamala? Hillary and Ted will be outraged. Same, sad, old Trump," one posted on X.

"Pretty sure his vocabulary is only a few hundred words and half of them are just real words with '-ly' tacked on the end," another wrote.

"He’s working with a very limited vocabulary. He does love himself after all," someone else added.

"Nicknames and sexism are all he and the Republican party have against her," read a comment.

"Trump is nervous," another suggested.
