PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump once again put forward a policy proposal that would provide green cards to immigrants with college degrees, as per Raw Story.

In June 2024, Trump said he would push for a program that would automatically give green cards to all foreign college students in America after they graduate after a vetting process, according to the New York Times.

Donald Trump again puts forward policy for immigrant students to get green card

Donald Trump posted on Truth Social at around 3 am on Saturday, August 24, and shared a link celebrating a proposal he had previously put forth. The link was an opinion piece from the Washington Examiner titled 'Trump is right: Foreign graduates should get green cards'.

The article read, "Despite facing friendly fire from so-called national conservatives over a recent interview with the venture capitalists on the All-In podcast, former President Donald Trump’s latest insistence that foreign students be compelled to stay in the country after attending an American college exemplifies the former president’s pro-growth strain of 'America First."

Notably, during his term as president, Trump’s immigration agenda included restrictions on green cards, visa programs, refugee resettlement, and other forms of legal immigration, reducing the number of lawful permanent residents entering the country.

Trump began his presidency by signing an executive order that banned travelers from seven predominantly Muslim countries and later embraced a proposal to cut legal immigration by half, as per the New York Times.

Throughout his presidency, he assailed the H-1B visa program, favored by tech companies as a medium to hire foreign skilled workers, as a "theft of American prosperity".

Moreover, he also expanded restrictions on legal immigration during the pandemic and proposed suspending all immigration to the United States and deporting foreign students if they did not attend at least some classes in person.
