Trump targets Abdul El-Sayed after Michigan primary win, calls Democrat a 'communist'

WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Wednesday, August 5, sharply criticized Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Dr Abdul El-Sayed, launching a series of attacks during a campaign-style speech in Las Vegas just a day after El-Sayed secured the Democratic nomination in Michigan's closely watched Senate primary.

Trump accused El-Sayed of embracing "communism," and questioned his views on Israel and Jewish people. Trump also revived his longstanding allegations of election fraud in Detroit ahead of November's general election.

Trump attacks Abdul El-Sayed's political views

Speaking to supporters at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa, Trump singled out El-Sayed, dismissing the Democratic nominee in blunt terms. "When I watch Abdul, he's full of s**t," Trump said.

The president went on to portray El-Sayed as part of a broader movement of Democrats whom he described as "communists," arguing that electing such candidates would damage the country.

Trump also accused El-Sayed of hostility toward Israel and Jewish people. "Put him in office, you're going to find out what he loves. He doesn't love Israel. He doesn't love Jewish people. He hates them. He hates them with a passion that burns in his heart,” he said.

El-Sayed, a physician and former public health official, has been critical of US military support for Israel during the war in Gaza and has argued that more federal resources should be directed toward domestic priorities such as healthcare. He has campaigned on progressive policies including Medicare for All and reducing the influence of corporate money in politics.

Following his primary victory over Rep Haley Stevens, El-Sayed thanked Jewish supporters during his victory speech and emphasized his commitment to protecting residents regardless of faith.

"To all of my sisters and brothers of the Jewish faith... I want you to know that my commitment to your safety, my commitment to Jewish safety, is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters."

Trump renews Detroit election fraud claims after Michigan primary

Trump also expanded his criticism in a Truth Social post, calling El-Sayed a "Communist" and alleging that widespread voter fraud occurs in Detroit's Wayne County.

"Wayne County (Detroit) in Michigan is one of the most corrupt voting areas in the United States, if not the World," Trump wrote. "It is strictly Third World! Miracles happen in Wayne County, including more votes being cast than there are voters, by a lot."

Trump also warned Republicans to prepare for what he described as another "Rigged Election," repeating his claims about mail-in ballots despite courts and election officials repeatedly rejecting allegations of widespread fraud in previous elections.

Ahead of the primary, the Department of Justice announced it would deploy federal election monitors to several Michigan jurisdictions, including Detroit, Hamtramck, Lansing and East Lansing, stating the effort was intended to ensure compliance with federal election laws and promote transparency during the voting process.
