WASHINGTON, DC: Former Presiden Donald Trump called upon members of the Republican Party serving in the House and the Senate to "close down" the federal government unless they receive "absolute assurances" on election security on Tuesday, September 10.

The GOP presidential nominee and his supporters have started claiming that the 2024 election would be "stolen," undermining the faith in the electoral system, a key tenet of democracy, according to Mediaite

Trump has continued to claim that the 2020 presidential election, which he lost to Joe Biden, was stolen. Multiple court cases and audits showed the claim to be baseless, as nothing was discovered that pointed at Trump's loss by approximately seven million votes being fraudulent.

Donald Trump claims Democrats are trying to 'stuff' voter registrations with 'illegal aliens'

Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Donald Trump wrote, "If Republicans in the House, and Senate, don’t get absolute assurances on Election Security, THEY SHOULD, IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, GO FORWARD WITH A CONTINUING RESOLUTION ON THE BUDGET."

He further claimed, "THE DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO 'STUFF' VOTER REGISTRATIONS WITH ILLEGAL ALIENS. DON’T LET IT HAPPEN - CLOSE IT DOWN!!!"

The aggressive tone of the message follows his Saturday post in which he vowed to imprison anyone he suspects of rigging the election, including donors of his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

He wrote, "CEASE & DESIST: I, together with many Attorneys and Legal Scholars, am watching the Sanctity of the 2024 Presidential Election very closely because I know, better than most, the rampant Cheating and Skullduggery that has taken place by the Democrats in the 2020 Presidential Election. It was a Disgrace to our Nation!"

"Therefore, the 2024 Election, where Votes have just started being cast, will be under the closest professional scrutiny and, WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again," added the former president.

Trump proclaimed, "We cannot let our Country further devolve into a Third World Nation, AND WE WON’T! Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, & Corrupt Election Officials. Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country."

House GOP seeks to link passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act with additional funding to keep the government open. If passed, the act would require those registering to vote to show proof of citizenship.

However, it's important to note that non-citizens are already banned from voting in federal elections and states have verification procedures in place.

One wrote, "Trump continues to threaten the #Republican legislature," and another said, "Yes @GOP please shut down the government so we can hang this on y'all right before the election."

"Liar. You're going to prison boy," stated a person, while someone else quipped, "Already preparing for a loss."

"We're done with your scare tactics and fear mongering. We're done with you holding the government hostage for your personal grievances," remarked an individual.

One more exclaimed, "The elections are secure and they have ALWAYS been secure!"

Another person rightly pointed out, "Bulls**t. Only American citizens can vote in Federal elections. This is a fake issue that you are creating to set up The Big Lie Part Deux when you lose again in November. Eat s**t, Donny."
