Usher dismisses viral clone rumor after New Jersey concert: 'AI ain't that advanced'

EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY: Usher has addressed viral claims that he used a body double during his latest R&B concert in New Jersey. The concert took place on Friday, August 7, at MetLife Stadium.

The “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” singer responded to the theory in the comments of a video that fueled speculation online. The theory started taking shape when a video went viral showing a look-alike of the 47-year-old singer at the stadium, prompting some viewers to question whether Usher was actually performing on stage.

Usher responds to viral clone and body double claims

Usher appeared to address the speculation directly after a video about the concert was shared on August 9. Rather than taking the claims seriously, the singer responded with two comments that appeared to poke fun at the theory.

“How ya'll come up with this? AI ain't that advanced,” he wrote in his first comment. In the next, he wrote, “Ya'll are funny...clone? They can't clone this??”

Despite the comments, some viewers continued to discuss the possibility that a body double had performed during the tour stop.

The confusion started when fans began to believe that the 'real' Usher was not actually performing at his New Jersey concert. The Grammy Award winner was dressed in white graffiti-painted pants, a matching full-sleeve jacket, a green hat and dark sunglasses.

He looked bewildered about the stage setup before he started performing his 2004 single, 'Yeah!'. Apart from the track, he also performed 'Caught Up' and 'Bad Girl.' He walked onto the stage and performed his tracks, but fans dragged other speculation into the conversation, claiming that it wasn't Usher who performed during the tour stop and calling him his 'stunt double.”

Usher's R&B tour with Chris Brown

Usher and Chris Brown are co-headlining the tour, which has 33 dates and will run across North American stadiums. Named after their last initials, Raymond and Brown, the tour kicked off on June 26 in Denver and runs through December 12, wrapping up in Tampa.

Now, apart from the stunt-double claims, Usher had another incident that went viral. He was performing in Nashville with Brown when a woman from the audience was randomly chosen for his next act, making it an interactive fan-singer moment.

As shirtless Usher started to sing to her, the anonymous woman started to feel visibly uncomfortable and stiffly moved back. As soon as Usher saw this, he quickly said, “I don't think she wants to be on the stage, huh?”

The woman who was selected for the act clapped back and said, “First off, NOBODY is declining to go on stage.” She continued, “I looked good, you think I wasn't going to let thousands of people see me?”

The New Jersey concert, however, generated a different kind of online discussion, with footage of Usher's performance prompting viewers to speculate about whether he had used a body double. Usher addressed the claims himself, dismissing the clone theory while joking about the idea that AI could replace him.
