‘Should I Run for Congress?’—Nancy Pelosi Once Sought Her Daughter’s Permission Before Entering Politics
Before Nancy Pelosi became one of the most recognizable names in Washington, she had to ask one person a very personal question: her daughter.
Pelosi once recalled that before running for Congress, she told her daughter she could not make the decision without her permission. She explained that if she went to Washington, she would be gone for three nights a week and four days a week whenever Congress was in session.
Pelosi said she loved her life at home. She liked being there. She did not even know if she would win.
So she asked: “Why should I run for Congress?” Her daughter’s answer was blunt “Mother, get a life.”
