Chaos in NYC: Gunfire Erupts in Manhattan’s West Village as NYPD Swarms Busy Intersection
Gunfire broke out in a bustling West Village area of downtown Manhattan on Thursday night, January 8, prompting a large and swift response from the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Footage from local resident Tom Babich-Stack shows multiple NYPD vehicles swooping down onto Bedford Street, next to the busy intersection at 6th Avenue and West Houston Street, and police officers rushing out of their vehicles toward the scene. A few minutes later, several police officers are seen escorting a person on a stretcher toward an ambulance. Babich-Stack said he was sitting in his apartment when “the gunshots rang out” but, from his vantage point, it was unclear who had opened fire. The NYPD said a police investigation was underway at Bedford Street and 6th Avenue and asked people to avoid the area, but had not released any details about the incident at the time of publication.
