This footage taken by Nicole Davis shows the brave good Samaritans smashing the windows of an SUV as it sank behind Bubba’s Seafood Restaurant & Crabhouse in Virginia Beach on Friday afternoon. The community members could be seen attempting to speak to the woman and break the windows to free her. A man was able to bust through the rear windshield and pull the driver out to safety as the vehicle fully submerged in the frigid water. According to a WAVY report, four people assisted in the rescue, including an aviation rescue swimmer named Jeremy Way who happened to be nearby. Way, who has been in the Navy for 17 years, told WAVY that the woman driving the SUV was unable to unlock her doors. He said that after another man was able to crawl into the vehicle they were able to remove the woman and he thew her into a “cross-chest carry” to swim towards the pylons. Virginia Beach Police said that the driver and two good Samaritans were taken to the hospital for non-serious injuries, local news reported. The car was removed from the water before 5 pm local time. The cause of the crash was unconfirmed and police were investigating the incident.
