EV Explodes in Home Garage, 60 Firefighters Rush In, Hazmat Deployed

South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a terrifying garage fire in Douglas County after an electric vehicle caught fire inside a home on Vienna Circle. Multiple 911 calls reported thick smoke as crews arrived to find a fully involved garage with two vehicles burning, including a hybrid. Firefighters used an EV containment blanket to stop the flames from spreading. The fire was controlled within 30 minutes. Sixty firefighters responded. Thirty had to undergo full decontamination due to toxic battery fumes. One person was hospitalized, and four residents were displaced.
