Hakeem Jeffries on Kristi Noem Firing: “Good Riddance”
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wasted no time celebrating Kristi Noem's ouster from DHS, telling reporters at the Capitol, "Kristi Noem is gone. Good riddance. She was a disaster." Jeffries said the firing was "consistent with what House Democrats demanded on behalf of the American people," noting his party had made clear weeks ago that Noem would either be fired or face impeachment. He also warned the pressure campaign isn't over, posting on X that "Pam Bondi is next" and urging Democrats to "keep the pressure on these extremists." However, Jeffries made clear that swapping Noem for Sen. Markwayne Mullin won't end the DHS funding standoff now in its twentieth day. "A change in personnel is not sufficient. We need a change in policy," he said, reiterating Democratic demands for body camera mandates, a ban on face masks during operations, and new warrant requirements for home entries and arrests. DNC Chair Ken Martin went further, calling Noem a "stain on American history" who has "the blood of two Minnesotans on her hands." Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer echoed the sentiment but stressed the problems at DHS "go much deeper than any one person."
