Jeffries Blasts Trump, GOP as DHS Shutdown Drags Into Day 5

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries sharply criticized Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers as the partial government shutdown over Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding entered its fifth day. Jeffries said Democrats will not advance a DHS funding bill unless major reforms are made to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including limits on the use of force, independent investigations into alleged misconduct, and protections for sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, houses of worship, and polling sites. The partial shutdown, which affects agencies under the DHS umbrella, began after negotiations between congressional Democrats and the White House failed to reach an agreement on funding through September. With lawmakers currently out of Washington, the prospects for a near-term deal remain uncertain. Stay tuned for updates on the DHS funding deadlock, immigration reform debate, and the ongoing government shutdown standoff.
