Guatemalan man sentenced to 30 yrs for deaths of 53 migrants in US-Mexico border smuggling attempt

A Guatemalan man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in a deadly migrant-smuggling operation that killed 53 people in Texas in June 2022. Investigators said migrants were trapped inside a sweltering tractor-trailer without functioning air conditioning as temperatures reached 100°F. Four other defendants, including the truck’s driver, are awaiting sentencing.
