Kristi Noem Vows Crackdown on Minnesota Fraud, Says Investigators “Won’t Back Down”

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem told senators during today's Judiciary Committee hearing that roughly 650 federal agents remain deployed in Minnesota, with investigators focused on uncovering what the administration has called "industrial-scale fraud" tied to federal nutrition, daycare, and pandemic aid programs. The fraud probes stem from the $300 million Feeding Our Future scandal, which led to 57 convictions, and have since expanded into 14 Medicaid-funded programs where federal prosecutors allege half of the $18 billion disbursed since 2018 may have been stolen. Noem made clear the investigators aren't leaving anytime soon. The operation, which at its peak saw 2,000 DHS agents surge into the Twin Cities, has drawn sharp criticism from Democrats who argue it has been used as cover for aggressive immigration enforcement rather than genuine fraud investigation. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called it a "war against Minnesota," while legal challenges allege agents conducted sweeping raids at job sites and businesses far beyond fraud-related targets. Despite the backlash and an ongoing DHS shutdown, Noem doubled down, telling lawmakers the fraud investigators will stay until the job is done.
