Minneapolis Mayor Rejects DHS Account After ICE Agent Fatally Shoots Woman

A federal immigration agent fatally shot a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 7, according to the city’s mayor, Jacob Frey, who condemned both ICE and the Trump administration. Footage released to Storyful by Emily Heller shows a group of witnesses pleading with authorities to check on the victim’s pulse, identified as Renee Nicole Good, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune. “Can I go check her pulse?” one individual can be heard asking in the video. The request is then denied by an immigration agent. “We have medics on scene, we have our own medics” an agent said. “Where are they?” a witness responded. “You killed my fing neighbor! How do you show up to work everyday? … You’re killing my neighbors, you’re stealing my neighbors!” In a statement posted to social media, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said: “ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism. An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots … The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased.” Mayor Frey called the DHS version of events “bullst” and said the woman was shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent “recklessly using power.” Frey demanded that ICE leave Minneapolis immediately.
