Police and Protesters Clash During ICE Protest in South Burlington
Multiple demonstrators were detained at a chaotic anti-ICE protest in South Burlington, Vermont, on Wednesday, March 11, according to local reports. WCAX reported that the chaos ensued when federal agents attempted to take a man into custody after he crashed his car into federal vehicles, fled on foot, and entered a home on Dorset Street. Agents remained outside the residence while waiting for a warrant. Dozens of protesters later arrived at the scene and began confronting the officers. Footage captured by photographer Nathaniel Maddison shows tensions rising throughout the demonstration. Protesters can be seen shouting profanities at agents, dancing, and following them around. According to WCAX, federal agents later announced they had obtained a warrant to detain the man. Authorities then broke down the door and arrested a man inside the home. Protesters reportedly crowded around the house. Local nonprofit Migrant Justice said in a statement that eight protesters were detained. Federal authorities announced on Thursday that the man they detained was not the suspect they were originally looking for.
