Protesters Clash With Police as Tensions Escalate in LA Amid Anti-ICE Walkout
Demonstrators clashed with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), as students from around LA walked out in protest of federal immigration raids across the city on Wednesday, February 4. Organizers said the “walkout is student-led, peaceful, and rooted in protecting our right to education and our communities”. “We’re moving with unity, strategy, and intention for our families and our future,” organizers wrote. Footage captured by Anthony Cabassa shows tensions escalating, as student protesters and organizers clashed with LAPD officers. “About 100+ middle/high school students (and organizers) are facing off with LAPD in riot gear near the federal detention center,” Cabassa said in a post to X. Another clip shows police on motorcycles attempting to disperse the crowd, only to be surrounded and eventually flee the area. The LAPD Central Division issued a dispersal order, citing that “officers were detaining a person for throwing items at officers when the crowd surrounded the officers and began to impede.”
