Rep Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick to serve 53 years in prison for stealing $5M of FEMA funds

A federal grand jury has indicted Democratic Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick on charges accusing her of stealing $5 million in FEMA funds and laundering some of it into her 2021 congressional campaign. Prosecutors say she and her brother Edwin Cherfilus routed the money through various accounts, used straw donors, and disguised the source of the funds. Her tax preparer, David K. Spencer, is charged as well.
