Redistricting Battle Continues- Democrats and Republicans Clash Over Supreme Court Ruling

14 May 2026
Redistricting Battle Continues - Democrats and Republicans Clash Over Supreme Court Ruling After the Supreme Court struck down Louisiana’s congressional map with two majority-Black districts, Democrats accused the Court and Republicans of gutting voting rights and weakening Black political representation across the South. Rep. Ro Khanna went further, calling the Court’s decision part of an “ugly recidivism” and demanding structural reforms. He called for Supreme Court justices to face 18-year term limits and for the Court to expand from 9 to 13 justices. Rep. Pramila Jayapal also accused Republicans of distracting from what she called the dilution of Black voting power. Republicans say that is the point Democrats are ignoring. Speaker Mike Johnson defended the ruling, saying states cannot hold elections on maps the highest court has declared unconstitutional. Rep. Wesley Hunt also rejected Democratic comparisons to Jim Crow, saying “Jim Crow is dead” and pointing to his own election as a Black Republican representing a majority-white district in Texas. #Redistricting #SupremeCourt #Louisiana #VotingRights #RoKhanna #PramilaJayapal #WesleyHunt #MikeJohnson #Republicans #Democrats #Election2026
